Many trail users looking to explore a new (to them) section of the Miami Valley Trails, or looking to visit the Miami Valley Trails for the first time from another part of the country like to do advance planning using an interactive map. The Miami Valley Trails website has a map of the network on a static map, which, as has been communicated several time, some find to be difficult to use, and less informative than desired. The honest truth here is, building and maintaining a Google Maps level of interface would incur monthly fees from Google that were simply too high for our budget. So here are a few recommendations for alternatives.
Google has the complete network of the Miami Valley Trails - and trails that connect to them in their Biking Layer. In addition, more then 300 miles of the Miami Valley Trails have been imaged in Google Streetview, thanks to an effort by Five Rivers MetroParks and cooperating trail managing agencies. Google Maps can provide biking or walking directions along the trails, which also provide total distance and estimated trip times. The full functionality of Google Maps works for planning walking and biking excursions along the trails.
ODNR has assembled all of the trails in Ohio they are aware of in one app. This includes all of the Miami Valley Trails, but also natural surface hiking trails and even water trails for kayaking. Read more about this app here, and download it to your mobile device; Detour is available for Android and iOS devices.
One last reminder, we have a short guide to getting the most out of the maps on our site. You can read that guide here: https://www.miamivalleytrails.org/tips-using-online-map
