It was welcome news in recent weeks that the Peace Bridge, the Third Street Bridge, has re-opened to traffic. In addition to the motor travel lanes, the new Peace Bridge also features separated bike facility on the downstream side of the bridge. This very wide space, elevated like a sidewalk, is designed as a shared space for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the river between Wright-Dunbar and downtown. This beautiful new bridge will enable safer travel for people on bikes, mobility devices and on foot in the core of the city of Dayton.
Unfortunately, the Great Miami River Trail UNDER the bridge has not yet been fully restored - on either bank. According to the Montgomery County Engineer’s office, the trail restoration for the west side of the river is scheduled to be completed by December 17, 2021. The trail restoration for the east side of the river is scheduled to be completed by December 24, 2021.
These schedules are, of course, weather dependent. When we get word of the trails being fully restored, we’ll be sure to post that on our web site.
